As luck would have it, a hand grabs a hold of your coat and pulls you back on to the sidewalk as the vehicle passes, its horn still blaring. Now that was a close call, one that could have ended in tragedy.
Of course, you checked that the road was clear before you attempted to cross, didn't you? You are fairly sure that you did although, right now, you are probably too shook up to remember what the day is let alone your actions before that near-fatal accident.
Had it not been for someone who could clearly see what was about to happen, and the fact that they yanked you back out of harm's way, you would probably be dead, your twisted broken body thrown across the road like a rag doll. Life is like that.
As for my wife, Louise Deveraux, that speeding car came in the form of the New York mafia, or at least a faction of the Carbinicci family who ruled one of the five neighborhoods. They controlled everything from the police to the city Aldermen, drugs, gambling, prostitution. They were everywhere. The unfortunate part, for me, was that I was not able to stop her or keep her from harm. She was a woman on a mission and way out of her depth when she flew in to LaGuardia airport to see our publisher.
Now, for reasons that will soon become apparent, I will let Louise tell her side of the story.
When you purchase the book you will step aboard a roller-coaster that will, at times, seem totally out of control. Scared? You will be!
You may wish to throw your hands in the air and be like everyone else, one of the crowd just enjoying the ride. But then... I'm sure that you will be safe, just as long as you do not try to leave the ride while it's in motion.
